(1) The first PowerPoint of this lesson "Alquimia de colores"/"Alchemy of Colors", taps into the students' existing knowledge by starting off with the three primary colors and the combinations that create the three secondary colors. This three-part lesson is designed to introduce and/or review the colors in Spanish. This unit also asks students to apply their knowledge of the previous language-based concepts to describe the colors and shapes they see in some of Picasso's cubist paintings. The separate, yet related, unit on the Spanish painter Pablo Picasso provides a cultural backdrop where students can use other multiple intelligences to advance their acquisition of Spanish. On a deeper level, students gain exposure (without overt instruction per se) to a few fundamental concepts of the Spanish language, including: (1) number (singular and plural), (2) gender (masculine and feminine), and (3) noun + adjective agreement. The mini-course then applies this vocabulary to the Spanish painter Pablo Picasso and his cubist work.
